Introducing ResumePark’s WordPress Plugin

Last week we released a WordPress Plugin which makes it dead simple to embed your ResumePark hosted resume/cv on your WordPress powered blog.  Although our system has always had  support for embedding your resume on any web page using our simple JavaScript include – see Publishing a Resume to your Blog, we decided it would be benefiical to develop a plugin making it even easier for existing WordPress users.

Here’s how it works:

1) Download and install the ResumePark Wordpress plugin. The plugin can be downloaded here:  www.wordpress.org/extend/plugins/resumepark/

2) Activate the ResumePark plugin.

Activate ResumePark Plugin

3) Create a ResumePark account and upload a recent copy of your resume. It only takes a minute and most popular document formats are supported.

4) Select “Share” from the left nav bar and click on the WordPress icon. This will direct you to a page where your custom tag will be displayed.

5) Copy the [resumepark] tag an paste it into any of your blog posts / pages.

The tag should look something like this:

[ resumepark resumeId=EhnN5zwNTkm8pSaLOz1yEA!41 height=500 width=690 /]

That’s it!  By adding this tag to any blog post or page your resume/cv will be displayed as follows:

Tapping into “The Hidden Job Market” using ResumePark and Facebook

I’ve read that the hidden job market can represent up to 70% of all job opportunities – amazing. These unadvertised jobs are usually filled through recommendations, personal referrals, head hunters or even employers directly contacting candidates. In an attempt to help you tap into this hidden market, ResumePark integrates with various social networks allowing you to distribute your resume across existing networks.

We feel that the best way to uncover these hidden opportunities is to ask the people you know and trust – your friends. That’s why we recently rolled out a feature that lets you share your resume on Facebook. Wouldn’t it be great to get some help with your job search? It’s actually not that hard and it may uncover some job opportunities you never even knew were out there. By leveraging your existing Facebook network you’ll be one step closer to landing your next gig.

Here’s how it works:

After your profile is set up (ResumePark or TwitRes) navigate to your public resume page and click on the “share” button. You’ll notice other social network options but for the purpose of this blog entry we’ll focus on Facebook. Once you select “Share on Facebook” you’ll be redirected to a Facebook share page where you’ll be presented with a “post” form. We went ahead and pre-populated some of the fields but fell free to change them as you see fit.

Add a Message

Since this post will be visible on your Facebook wall and in the news feed of your friends, it’s probably a good idea to provide some context as to why you are sharing your resume. Let your network know what you are looking for, the more details the better!

Add Resume to Facebook

You’re done!  Pretty simple, right?  Now your existing Facebook network has:

a) knowledge that you are looking for work
b) access to an updated copy of your resume
c) the ability to share your resume with their network

The link back to your ResumePark hosted resume will allow your friends to forward your resume to hiring managers they may know or anyone else who could help.

This is what your Facebook friends will see
